Bringing home a new kitten or adult cat.
The most important step for bringing home a new kitten or adult is minimizing stress. We recommend quarantining your new companion to a small area in your home that other animals will not have access to for the 2 week quarantine period. If the kitten or adult appears timid/scared, please do not force them to interact with you.
Ensure your new addition has access to a clean litter box, fresh food and water. You may also include some special treats as well as toys in their area. A new home, smells, and new people can be frightening until they have become accustom to your home environment. If you have young children, please do not allow your children to chase the kitten or adult cat or force them to be held while they are scared.
Most Devon Rex are very outgoing and love people; however a new home can be scary for your new family member. Our FAQs below can answer many of the common questions you may have.

How do I introduce my new kitten or cat to my other animals?
For the first week, you can do scent swapping with blankets and beds to get them accustomed to each other’s smells. You can also feed them on opposite sides of a closed door. After a few days of having the door closed while eating, you can crack the door in order for them to see each other without access. Once they are able to eat and are comfortable with each other smells, you can introduce the new kitten or cat to your other pets.
How do I bathe my new kitten or cat?
Devon Rex kittens and cats do not need regular baths. We recommend a bath once or twice a year if warranted. You can use head and shoulders original shampoo and a sink filled with warm water. Do not fill the sink while they are in the sink. Lather the cat by hand avoiding going past their neck. Rinse the cat thoroughly and dry well in a clean, soft towel. Their face can be cleaned with a warm washcloth, no soap necessary. Avoid grooming with a brush as it will damage their hair.
